1. Why
has being a member of ASPB been important?
For my career development since I was a graduate student; this
is also true now, being a faculty member.
2. Was
someone instrumental in getting you to join ASPB?
Not really. I joined ASPB when I attended my first Society meeting
as a graduate student.
3. What
would you tell colleagues to encourage them to join?
It is important for your career development, no matter whether
you are a graduate student, postdoc, or faculty in plant sciences.
4. Have
you enhanced your career using ASPB job postings or through networking
at an ASPB function?
I think I learned about my postdoctoral position via ASPB. Attending
ASPB meetings and presenting data there are important for learning
and letting people know about your work.
5. Have
you had any success at finding candidates as a result of a job
posting at the meeting or on our online Job Bank?
Not yet.
6. Do you
read print journals? If so, where do you usually read them?
Yes, I print selected papers in pdf format and read them mainly
at home while watching TV or during travel.
7. What
do you think is the next big thing in plant biology?
Still the very basic cell biology, which is important for all
the new developments in genomics, proteomics, etc.
8. What
are you reading these days?
Papers related to teaching and researchnot much time for
reading novels yet.
9. What
are your hobbies?
Music and sports to keep relaxed and energetic.
10. What
is your most treasured possession?
Good health and my family.
11. What
do you still have left to learn?
Pretty much everything. We face new challenges every day in classes,
in the laboratory, and at home.
