The 2010 SURF Application Is Now Closed.

CORE COMPONENTS OF THE SURF APPLICATION

This reference is designed to allow early-bird SURFers to prepare some of the content of their application. This is NOT the complete SURF application. The official application with complete directions is available only on-line and only during the official submission period.

STUDENT COMPONENTS

Research Project Requirements:

  1. Title of proposed research project.
  2. A project description that clearly delineates the rationale, significance, and goals of the project and provides a clear outline of the experimental approach. The project description must not exceed one page. The student should be the primary author of the project description, but it is expected that the research mentor will provide guidance.
  3. Evidence of preparation by the student for successful completion of the project (relevant course background, classroom laboratory preparation, independent study, previous research experience, etc.).

Personal Statement:

  1. Your long-term career objectives
  2. How the award of an ASPB Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship will enhance your career objectives

Letter of Recommendation:

Upload online a letter of recommendation from a college or university faculty member, other than the faculty mentor, who knows your performance well. The letter should address your preparation for the project, your potential to carry out the project successfully, and your potential to succeed in a career in plant biology.

Transcript(s):

Submit one official transcript of your academic record (or one from each institution you have attended). Freshmen only send your high school transcript also. Scan transcripts as text (not as a photo image). You may upload online or mail hardcopy transcripts to ASPB using the address at the end of this application. Transcripts must be submitted/postmarked by February 26, 2010.
