Thank you for your interest in the ASPB 2012 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. The application window for this cycle of SURF is December 1, 2011, to February 24, 2012 (11:59 p.m. ET). Winners are notified by email no later than April 16, 2012.

SURF is designed to support promising undergraduate students so they can conduct meaningful research in plant biology during the early part of their college careers. Ideally, students will conduct SURF-funded research the summer following their second year of undergraduate study. Exceptionally well-prepared first- and third-year students who provide evidence of a strong commitment to plant biology will also be considered. Students graduating in May/June 2012 are not eligible.

Download the application by clicking on the section. Save the application to your computer. Follow the instructions on the form to fill it out.

After you've uploaded your application, you'll be given an ID for your application which can be used to modify your application at any time until the deadline: February 24, 2012 (11:59 pm ET).

You can upload only one file for the Student Information and one for the Mentor Information.

• You may insert additional pages to the individual files to include your research project, personal statement and any additional component items.
• Be mindful of the page limits noted in the directions (see links above).
• Embed any images or special fonts into your file.
• We strongly prefer PDF (*.pdf) files, but will accept MS Word documents (*.doc, *.docx).
• Include file extensions (i.e. .pdf) at the end of your file name. Only use alpha-numeric characters in your file name.

Transcript and Letter of Recommendation files will be uploaded by ASPB. Please see the above links for directions about your letter and transcripts submissions.
