American Society of Plant Biologists Sponsorship and Naming Opportunities

ASPB very much welcomes your generosity! There are a number of established awards and programs your gift could support for one year of sponsorship or a lifetime of support in the form of an endowment. For those endowing and naming an award or program, ASPB strongly encourages you to consider making gifts with as few restrictions as possible. This works to ensure that the award or program will remain relevant as the field of plant biology changes over time.

Established Awards and Programs

  • ASPB Travel Awards - sponsor student travel to the annual meeting ($500 minimum for one-time gift; $10,000 to endow and name)
  • Recognition Travel Award - sponsor a minority student or faculty member to attend the ASPB annual meeting ($2,000 minimum for one-time gift; $40,000 to endow and name)
  • Fellows Award - sponsor the annual ASPB Fellows Reception at the annual meeting ($2,000 minimum for one-time gift; $40,000 to endow and name)
  • SURF Program - sponsor a SURF student ($4,000 minimum for one-time gift; $80,000 to endow and name a SURF award)
  • Education Foundation Grant Program - sponsor a grant ($10,000 minimum for one-time gift; $200,000 to endow and name)
  • Memorial Tree at ASPB headquarters ($4,000 for purchase, planting, marker, and maintenance)

New Awards and Programs

  • Parties interested in establishing a new award or program should begin the process by sending a proposal to the ASPB Executive Committee explaining the new award or program. For new awards, the proposal should state the justification, nomination criteria, and desired frequency of the award (annual or biennial). For new programs, the proposal should state the justification, provide a detailed outline of program operations, provide a time line for establishment and implementation along with an operating budget. ASPB strongly encourages donors seeking to establish new awards or programs to contact Kimberly Kimnach, Associate Director of Finance & Administration of the society, prior to submitting a proposal.
  • Approval of the ASPB Executive Committee must be secured before initiating any kind of fundraising in the name of ASPB. When approved, the interested party is solely responsible for raising the funds to support the new award; ASPB cannot be directly involved. ASPB will not introduce a new award unless sufficient funds are raised to support it in perpetuity.
  • For a biennial award, at least $50,000 is required in the endowment and for an annual award, $100,000. Funding levels for programs will be determined by the dimensions and scope of the program proposed, but the corpus of the endowment must be sufficient to cover annual operating expenses.
  • The proceeds from these funds for new awards will be used to fully support the award, including plaques, monetary recognition for the awardee, and travel funds and lodging to attend the Plant Biology meeting. The proceeds from these funds for new programs will be used to fully support the program as outlined in the project proposal.

Gifts/Donations
ASPB accepts gifts to the society in the form of either cash or marketable securities. All gifts to ASPB are completely tax deductible. Individuals and parties seeking to make gifts to the society are strongly encouraged to contact ASPB at donations@aspb.org for assistance in the process. If you are considering a gift other than cash or marketable securities, please contact Kimberly Kimnach, Associate Director of Finance & Administration.
